MOP for Windows

Looking for the newest version…

Install in four steps

Windows 10 or 11. Takes about five minutes. Nothing else to install.

  1. Download. Click the orange ⬇ Download MOP button above. Your browser saves a file called MOP-…-windows.zip in your Downloads folder. It is large (a few hundred MB); give it a minute.
  2. Unpack it. Open your Downloads folder (in File Explorer, on the left). Right-click the MOP zip file and choose Extract All…. Change the place to your Desktop if you like, then click Extract. A new folder appears, called MOP-….
  3. Start MOP. Open that folder and double-click MOP.exe.
  4. If Windows warns you. The first time, Windows may show a blue box “Windows protected your PC”. Click More info, then Run anyway. (MOP is not yet signed with a paid certificate; it is safe.)
💡 Tip: right-click MOP.exe → Send to → Desktop (create shortcut). From then on, start MOP from the icon on your Desktop.
📖 Next: set up your station and radio with the manual, chapters 4 to 6. About twenty minutes.

Updating

When a new version is out, MOP shows an orange ⬆ MOP … available button at the top. Click it, and you are back on this page. Download and unpack the new zip the same way, and start the new MOP.exe. You can delete the old folder afterwards.

💡 Your callsign, settings, messages and signing key are kept in Documents\MOP, not in the program folder, so a new version finds them straight away. Back up that folder now and then — your signing key is in it.

📖 The manual

Everything from installing MOP to your first message, step by step: connecting your radio (with recipes for Digirig, SignaLink, Yaesu, Icom and more), messages, groups, the map, and what to do when something doesn't work. Read it in your browser, or print the PDF and keep it in the shack.
